33rd Young Economist of the Year Award

 

The award is open to Czech citizens as well as citizens of other countries who are living, working or studying in the Czech Republic, aged 30 years or under (these conditions also apply to all potential co-authors). Applications for the award is not restricted to CES members.

Each applicant may send only one scientific paper of their own work, which should be no longer than 30 pages (a maximum of 54,000 characters including spaces), and must include an abstract, keywords and JEL classification. The paper (without the author's name) should be sent along with an application form and a short nontechnical summary of up to 100 words by e-mail to young.economist@cse.cz no later than October 9, 2026.

Each award winner is obliged to present their paper briefly on the occasion of the 14^th Biennial Conference of the CES to be held at the University of Economics, Prague, Czech Republic on November 27–28, 2026.

The award winners will receive 35,000 CZK for the first place, 25,000 CZK for the second place and 12,000 CZK for the third place. The President of the CES may also award the "Karel Engliš Prize" for the best paper on Czech economic policy. "Honourable Recognition by the President of the CES for an Excellent Paper" may also be awarded to an author aged 25 years or younger who has not previously received an award from the CES.

Examples of papers eligible for submission:

• An original work by the author qualifies for submission if it is based on the author’s bachelor’s, master’s, or equiv alent rigorous thesis, provided the author is 30 years old or younger as of January 1, 2026 (The age limit for the author, or for any co-author, may be extended by the duration of a documented career break, by a maximum of three years, due to maternity, paternity or parental leave, or during the period of caring for a child under 10 years of age or another dependent person, on the basis of a sworn declaration; the granting of this exception shall be decided by the President of the CES.). Such a work meets the competition’s eligibility criteria.
• A dissertation, or part of a dissertation, prepared independently or in co-authorship also qualifies for submission, provided all co-authors are 30 years old or younger as of January 1, 2026.
• A paper being prepared or considered as a joint paper with any co-authors who do not meet the age require ment of 30 years old or younger as of January 1, 2026 does not meet the competition’s criteria and is not eligible for submission.
