The prize is granted in memory of Prof. Kateřina Šmídková, long-term member of CES management board, professor of economics at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, and director of Economic Research Department of the Czech National Bank. Until her premature death in April 2014 Prof. Kateřina Šmídková had held the post of the Czech female economist with most valued and most often quoted publications, mainly focused on monetary economics, monetary policy and European economic policy. Publication activity and work of Prof. Kateřina Šmídková at the Czech National Bank as well as at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University was most appreciated not only in the Czech Republic but also on the international economic scene.
